Now we talk about those options which you can consider after completing your Graduation in Engineering. There are basically five main options according to the trends out there. These are – Professional courses, Higher Studies, jobs, Civil Services, and Entrepreneurship.

1. Job after Graduation
Most engineering graduate students opt for jobs after completion of their graduation. Job opportunities are outstanding after engineering.
Engineering colleges have a dedicated placement cell that works towards getting the campus placement for their students. It is beneficial to get a job in a company through campus placements.
So, try to be selected for a job during campus placement. After B.Tech, most students are hired by private companies like Wipro, TCS, and a lot more in order to get relevant experience. After your college, you also have the option to choose a job in the government sector on the basis of your graduate degree.
GATE Exam
After B.Tech students can also take up technical jobs in Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) by qualifying the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering). A few PSUs such as SAIL, ISRO, DRDO, and BARC conduct their own exams to choose students for entry-level jobs. So going for the GATE can be a major advantage for you.
IES Exam
Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam, also known as Engineering Services Examination, is a national-level enrollment exam. This exam is coordinated by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This exam is organized to select candidates for engineering posts under the Government of India to meet its technical requirements.
Hence, the IES exam is considered one of the toughest examinations in the country. It has three main stages – IES Preliminary, IES Main, and Personality Test. More than 2 Lakh students appear in this exam every year.
2. Higher Studies (M.Tech/M.S./MBA):
If you could not get a good job during campus placements or after college, then you can always go for higher education to increase your chances of a job.
But it is generally seen that very few people are involved in higher education. As far as further studies are concerned, the next step is to select a relevant postgraduate level professional degree program provided by engineering colleges.
Student’s first most preferring option is M.Tech if they want to pursue their study in India.
For getting selected for M.Tech programs offered by top engineering colleges like IITs and NITs, students have to appear for Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) examination. Many universities also conduct their own admission test for this purpose.
If we talk about other options than Mtech, Many students go to foreign countries like Germany, Canada, the USA, Australia, etc. for getting an M.S. or Master of Science degree. An MS course enhances your understanding of a field through a zero-level subject analysis.
You must have to clear TOEFL/IELTS (English proficiency tests) and GRE to get scholarships for MS programs. At present times, most of the foreign universities are offering post-graduate courses at economic costs and also many banks are providing study loans for higher studies.
Many students want to do an MBA to earn a management degree after completion of their engineering course. A graduate management degree is an outstanding contribution to the personal, as well as professional aspirations of students.
An MBA degree after engineering is treated profitably in terms of salary. Engineers with good technical skills get bored in a few years, doing the same activities in companies, and without a management acknowledgment.
A degree in MBA gives you more exposure and helps you receive more in very less time. In India, IIMs are considered the most prominent business schools.
They take admission through Common Admission Test (CAT) which is organized by IIMs.The result of CAT 2018 shows that it is influenced by engineers. In CAT 2018, as many as 20 candidates have scored the overall 100 percentile and all the 20 candidates were engineers. So doing an MBA from a reputable engineering college is always a better option.
3. Civil Services:
Every Indian at an early or later stage in his life dreams to be a Civil Servant as an IAS officer because this is a most reputed job and carries a lot of obligation. Studies and surveys show that around 25% of candidates cracking the IAS exam are engineers. Each year count of engineers, who are appearing in this exam increases frequently.
Every year at least one or two toppers among the top 10 ranks are engineers. Civil Services is not just about cracking an exam and then clearing an interview, it judges you on everything you can think of, who you are, and what you stand for.
It is the backbone of India. Although corporate jobs may offer the best of salaries and facilities, a majority of engineering aspirants still hunger for entry into the prestigious Indian Civil Services held by the UPSC.
According to the 65th Annual Report of the Union Public Service Commission, in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) more than half of the candidate qualifying exam comprises of engineers.
4. Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is the best career option for you if you have a unique business idea and some money to devote to your business. Entrepreneurship is all about opportunity.
Entrepreneurship is the newest thing if you want to be a Job Provider. Do not consider it as an option if you thought of becoming popular and rich in very little time. Entrepreneurship requires vision and proper management.
Starting your own business and making it beneficial for you would be the toughest of all the things you can do. Also, It becomes more competitive with minimal work experience.
So do not start a startup just to impress someone or to be rich in very little time. Every action requires a specific limit of time to give the appropriate result. Give some time to your action, then the result will definitely come positive.
